The Royal College of Surgeons of England Council 2009-2010.
The Speciality Advisory Committee in Trauma and Orthopaedics (SAC in T&O) is one of the nine surgical SAC's and five interface groups supporting the day to day management of the Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST) in Great Britain and Ireland. JCST is an advisory body for all matters in relation to surgical training to the four surgical Royal Colleges and the Specialist Associations within the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The work undertaken by the SAC's includes setting up standards for the specialist training of surgeons, development of working curriculum for the surgical training, providing advice to Regional Postgraduate Deans via their respective regional committees, providing advice and guidance to trainees, trainers and supporting the network of programme directors, evaluating the Article 14 applications on behalf of PMETB (Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board), making recommendations regarding training posts/programme standards and to establish run-through training programmes throughout the British Isles and Ireland.
It is for the first time an SAS (Staff and Associate Specialist) surgeon is invited to be the member of an SAC. I am a proud Johnite, and a Surgeon to have this great opportunity and honour to be the member of this very important committee that governs all matters of training in Trauma and Orthopaedics Speciality.
